Side Note :
We arrived with snow on the 14th of February, yet we saw the Storks and the cranes return from the South that weekend and on the 17th ; the last day of our stay, spring arrived together with a flock of little birds which I guess were swallows, but I'm not sure about that, as they were in a very large group flying above the trees in the wood where we were walking, which made it hard to observe them because of the branches... and a summery warm spring sun blinding us.
It was a lovely experience though, I will not easy forget... And the most beautiful Valentine ever, organised by Mother Nature.
Side Note :
I never saw such a beautiful location as home for elderly people. I'm not a fan of homes for elders, but if I could choose, I wouldn't mind to spend the last years of my life in such a lovely surounding, at least if the service is in style as well ;-)Next time I'll post a couple of drawings from my Valentine trip to bad Rehburg (Niedersachsen - Germany) last february.

THE LITTLE CHAPEL IN THE GREEN

De plaats en naam van dit kapelletje in het groen, moest ik eventjes gaan opzoeken, maar wat ik me wèl herinnerde was de muggenplaag die er heerste.
Waarschijnlijk door de vele regen die er de voorbije dagen was gevallen, hadden de muggen hun kans schoon gezien om zich massaal te vermenigvuldigen. De beten waren dan ook ontelbaar, eer mijn tekening klaar was... En de reis door de Puszta was maar pas begonnen.
De place and name of this little chapel in the green, I had to look up, but one thing I do remember, was the mosquito infestation.
Due to the rain of the previous days, they had taken there chance to multiplie en masse. So the mosquito bites were countless, before I finished my drawing. And the journey through the Puszta had only just begun...

GOSSAM IN THE WACHAU
(RUINS OF THE LITTLE ROMAN FORTRESS CHURCH "ST. PANCRAZ", WITH A CEMETERY FOR ILLEGITIMATE CHILDREN)
Dit Romaanse kerkje stamt uit de jaren 1100 en ontwikkelt zich in de 15de eeuw tot bedevaartsoord. Wanneer rond 1800 de toestroom van pelgrims echter beduidend afneemt, wordt het gebouw overgedragen en vervalt stilaan tot een ruïne.
Tijdens opgravingen werden nabij de kerkmuur de stoffelijke resten van "unfröhliche Kindern" gevonden ; buitenechtelijke kinderen die kort na hun geboorte gestorven waren. Zij mochten niet op het kerkhof begraven worden omdat zij uit zonde voortkwamen, maar de moeders kregen wèl de toelating om ze aan de kerkmuur te begraven Op die manier zouden ze door het regenwater dat langs de kerk naar beneden viel alsnog hun doopsel ontvangen...
This small Roman church dated from 1100, became a popular pelgrimage destination in the 15th century. When round 1800, the influx of pelgrims came to an end, the church was handed over, and little by little became a ruin.
During excavations, mortal remains of illegitimate children, were found near the church wall.
As they were presumed to be born of sin, their bodies weren't allowed on the graveyard, yet their mothers were allowed to burry them near the church wall. That way, the rain pouring down from the church, would baptise them after all.
