Side Note :

The foundation of Okoř Castle was laid at the end of the 13th century, with its construction continuing for two more centuries. However, during the Thirty Years’ War, the castle suffered devastating damage and gradually fell into ruin. Today, only the remnants of its Gothic walls, palaces, and chapel remain. Despite this, the castle still stands as a striking feature in the surrounding landscape, its entire area exuding a unique charm.

Interesting fact: Like many historic sites, Okoř is shrouded in secrets and legends. The most well-known tale is that of the White Lady, the ghost of the late lady of the castle, who wanders the ruins, guarding a treasure hidden deep beneath the ground. The mystery still draws curious adventurers, but so far, no one has managed to solve the legend or uncover the hidden treasure.

Nevertheless, "Tempus fugit" and not only castles crumble to ruins ... also years come and go.

Antonin Dvořák (8 september 1841 - 1 mei 1904) was een Tsjechische dirigent, violist, organist, muziekpedagoog en één van mijn favoriete klassieke componisten...

Toen ik in augustus vorig jaar tijdens mijn verblijf in Praag, de vesting Vyšehrad bezocht en er op de begraafplaats, tussen de zerken van andere bekende Tsjechische kunstenaars, ook zijn tombe ontdekte waarop dit borstbeeld van de hand van beeldhouwer Ladislav Saloun preikte, kon ik het natuurlijk niet nalaten dit in mijn schetsboek te vereeuwigen.

Klik op de schets en u kan één van zijn composities beluisteren die me telkens weer weet te ontroeren.

Mocht u ook helemaal weg zijn van zijn muziek, dan is er hier nog één die u allicht niet onbekend in de oren zal klinken, gezien het één van de populairste werken uit het symfonische repertoire van de romantiek betreft m.n. Dvorák's symfonie n° 9, "Uit de Nieuwe Wereld." En mocht u er daarna nóg niet genoeg van hebben, beluister dan vast ook zijn cello concerten, gewoon prachtig!
