Mortal beings

At the graveyard of Budapest
Graphite drawing in my sketchbook
42/29,7 cm

The priests and the friars
approach me in dread,
because I still love you
my love, and you're dead.
I still will be your shelter,
through rain and through storm.
For with you in your cold grave
I cannot sleep warm.”

The card players

Kertem Bar in Város Liget (citypark) - Budapest 2016
Graphite sketch in my sketchbook
29,7 / 21 cm

Note:

Last year the Olof Palme House in the Citypark of Budapest was a desolated and depressing place, irrespective of the beauty of the building. I remember my traveling companion and I regretting this, cause the architecture and the environment as well, surely had a potential for tourism. But guess what?

This year, we discovered we weren't the only ones with this opinion ...
Some creative folks had planted a wooden bar decorated with old vinyl records in the garden in front of the building, surrounded by colorfull furniture and decoration, changing the place into an enchanting location, for anyone to enjoy some drinks and conversation amidst a laid-back atmosphere, in the evening illuminated by multicolored bulbs. I truly like entrepreneurs like that!

The sketch of the card players on top, I've made in this "Kertem Bar" one early august afternoon, this summer, sitting in the green, enjoying jazzy music in the background, sunshine on my shoulders and sipping a cool drink...

Heaven couldn't offer any better ;-)
Moreover they sold beer from my homeplace there (notice "Hoegaarden" on the board)...

De bonte kraai

Corvus Cornix : Bonte kraai / Hooded crow

Watercolor pencils in my sketchbook
29,07 / 42 cm

Kanttekening

A special memory of Budapest...

The building in the background is a part of the St. Stephanus basilic drawn from the
Budapesti Történeti Múzeum where I had to do my utmost to catch this hooded crow on my paper.
It was an attraction itself for the tourists there, watching how this crow made a fool out of me by flying from here to there, with me following him.
But at the end he settled down on the wall, posing for the time needed to do my thing, offering me the nicest view in the background I could imagine ...

De oude notelaar en de vier kraaien

Juglans Regia

The old walnut tree and the four crows in the morninglight
Schetsboektekening in grafiet

They planted me,
a walnut-tree,
by the road-side to amuse passing boys,
as a mark for their well-aimed stones.
All my twigs and flourishing shoots are broken,
hit as I am by showers of pebbles.
It is no advantage for trees to be fruitful;
I, indeed, bore fruit only for my own undoing.
